Trustee At-Large

A resolution passed at the 2022 House of Delegates that provides a trustee position on the ISDS Board of Trustees that is an “at-large” position, not tied to any geographic location.  The first election for this position was held at the 2023 House of Delegates, and then every three years there forward.

Notice of intent to run for the trustee at-large position must be filed with the ISDS House of Delegates’ Secretary, Mr. Eric Larson, in advance to be included on the official ballot.  To submit such notice of intent, please email Eric Larson at elarson@isds.org, including your name, preferred email address/phone number for campaign-related communications from ISDS staff, and list at least three years that were served in the House of Delegates.  Once the qualifications to run for this position are certified, the candidate will receive an email stating so.

Chapter V – Section 1: There shall be no nominating speeches for the position of trustee at-large, however notice of intent to run for the position must be filed with the Secretary in advance to be included on the official ballot.

A candidate for the trustee at-large position shall not formally announce for office until the final day of the ISDS Annual Session House of Delegates meeting immediately preceding their candidacy. Candidates announcing after the final day of ISDS Annual Session House of Delegates must inform the Secretary of the House of their intent to run for the trustee at-large position. Campaign activities for the trustee at-large position will be limited to only a three-minute speech at the Opening Meeting of the House of Delegates in the year of the election.

Chapter V – Section 2. The trustee at-large must have served in the House of Delegates for a minimum of three (3) terms to qualify as a candidate for the position. The trustee at-large shall serve a term of three (3) years, with the first term to begin at the close of the 2023 House of Delegates. The trustee at-large may be elected from any component society of the Illinois State Dental Society.

Chapter XIII – Section 6.  Trustee Vacancy. If a trustee vacates the office of trustee for any reason, the component society of that trustee shall elect a replacement trustee for the remainder of that term of office, unless the position is the trustee at-large, in which case the House of Delegates will elect a qualified member to assume the remainder of the term.
