Continuing education is mandatory in the state of Illinois for licensed dentists and dental hygienists. The Rules
administering the Dental Practice Act explain in detail all the requirements for continuing education hours and approved sponsors of continuing education.
As an Illinois licensed dental professional it is your responsibility to keep evidence of your CE activities for five (5) years following the license renewal in the event you are audited by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, Division of Professional Regulation. You should maintain your CE records in the same manner in which you keep Internal Revenue Service records.

Continuing education courses are offered to the entire dental team member dentists, hygienists and lab technicians, and dental office staff. Topics are selected to enhance and update practicing dentists' formal education and to provide continual training for the dentist and dental auxiliary staff.
Dental hygiene members receive a $25 continuing education voucher each year to use when registering for any ISDS sponsored course.
Dental Auxiliary Courses
ISDS offers a certification course throughout the state to enable dental assistants to fulfill the educational requirements as stated in Illinois law for expanded functions.
