Description: This four-day course will satisfy the State of Illinois expanded function training requirements to allow registered dental hygienists to administer local anesthesia under the general supervision of a licensed dentist. Dr. Stanley F. Malamed's Handbook of Local Anesthesia (6th edition) text is NOT included in the fee and must be independently purchased. Course dates September 7, 8, 14 & 15, 2016

9/16/2016 SIU SDM Practice Opportunity Fair
  7:00 PM Location: Southern Illinois University Simulation Lab Building, Alton Campus, 2800 College Ave, Alton, IL
Description: SIU SDM has created this event specifically for anyone who may be interested in adding an associate and/or arranging a retirement transition. If you presently (or soon expect to) have a practice opportunity available, we encourage your attendance. Attendees will have a great opportunity to mingle with our Year 3 and 4 dental students who will be graduating in June of 2017 and 2018. In addition, as the evening progresses, attendees will also be able to participate in a brief one-on-one, speed networking event, offering brief intervals to learn more about individual students and for our students to learn more about your practice opportunity. Please note that this event is for independent private practice dentists only. We encourage dental service organizations to attend our Vendor Fair in the spring each year. Description: This course will provide assistants with the proper educational requirements as state in Illinois law for application of pit and fissure sealants and coronal polishing. This course includes two hours of clinical experience on pit and fissure sealants and two hours on coronal polishing. Clinical instructions on coronal polishing will include work performed on a human subject. Continental breakfast & lunch included.

Description: Dr. Marek joined the faculty of the University of Iowa College of Dentistry in 1996. She is currently a clinical associate professor in the College of Dentistry's Department of Oral Pathology, Radiology & Medicine and also a clinical associate professor in the UI College of Pharmacy's Department of Pharmacy Practice and Science. In 2011, Dr. Marek became a fellow in the American College of Apothecaries. Dr. Marek will cover the following subjects during this seminar: Antibiotics: to pre-medicate or not to pre-medicate; Xerostomia etiology and clinical management; prescribing NSAIDs emerging issues; and new anticoagulants & antiplatelet agents.
