ISDS encourages members to consider participating in important programs that enhance the public´s access to dental care in Illinois.
The Dental Lifeline program is just one way the dental profession reaches out to individuals with special needs who cannot afford dental treatment. These underserved people now receive comprehensive dental care because of the compassion and commitment of thousands of volunteer dentists across the nation. It’s easy to participate; dentists are asked to help one or two individuals each year.
Dental Lifeline serves disabled and aged people who cannot afford needed dental treatment and have no other way of getting help. Qualified applicants must be permanently disabled, chronically ill, or elderly. Each person’s condition must be severe enough to prohibit or significantly limit gainful employment. In addition, they can neither afford dental care nor can they receive it through other programs. These patients need extensive treatment, not just a cleaning and check-up.
Unlike other community service programs, Dental Lifeline volunteers donate services in their own offices instead of central treatment centers. Therefore, dentists will be able to work more efficiently with their own equipment, supplies and staff. Find out more by clicking here.
