Important License Renewal Process Update

ISDS has prepared a visual walkthrough guide, that should help members navigate the new renewal portal, particularly the account creation process.

License Renewal Process

The license renewal deadline is December 31st. As a reminder, dentists must submit a renewal application for each individual license, specialty license (if applicable) and controlled substance license.

To renew, visit the Online Renewal website:
https://ilesonline.idfpr.illinois.gov/DFPR/Default.aspx. and follow the instructions listed.

If you encounter any account, login, or other issues, please contact IDFPR Dental Board Liaison, Jerry Miller, at Jerry.R.Miller@Illinois.gov or 217-782-7524 for direct assistance.

License Renewal Error on Website Update:
ISDS has been contacted by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) about another known license renewal error on their website. For those individuals who have renewed multiple licenses (for example, general dentistry and a specialty), only one license may show completed for viewing and printing.

If this occurs, e-mail our IDFPR Dental Board Liaison, Jerry Miller, at Jerry.R.Miller@Illinois.gov. You will need to give your name, license number and notify him of which license is not appearing for you. Because of an IT error, Jerry will have to manually make a change to enable the correction.

Dentists and dental hygienists, along with other professions and occupations in renewal status, have experienced technical difficulties with the new licensure renewal process.  The Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) has shared that the migration to a new technology platform should provide ease of renewal in the future, but might require some additional time and attention for the 2021 renewal.

Individuals who have held a license since around 2014 or before will need to register a new account.  Those who obtained licenses from 2014 to current may use their existing login credentials to log in and do not need to register a new account.  ISDS has not been provided precise dates by IDFPR for which licensees will or will not need to create a new account.

ISDS has prepared a visual walkthrough guide, that should help members navigate the new renewal portal, particularly the account creation process.  Please review all sections of this walkthrough guide carefully, as it can be easy to make an error during the renewal process.

Continuing Education (CE) Requirements
Recently, at the Illinois State Board of Dentistry meeting, IDFPR announced that all CE requirements are extended to 12/31/21 under the variance to extend license renewals. Click here to obtain information about what is required, along with links to ISDS Sponsored courses.

Expiration Dates Displayed on Licenses
It has come to our attention that the expiration date displayed on licenses is not updating immediately following renewal.  Prior to renewing, all dental licenses are now showing an expiration date of 12/31/2021 due to the variance extending the renewal deadline to 12/31/2021.  However, it has been known to sometimes take up to one week for the expiration date to update to 9/30/2024.  At this time, it is best to allow some time to elapse before printing your renewed license.  After renewing your license, you may use the link below from IDFPR to check if your expiration date has been updated, and you may also use this to print a copy of the license.
