The Just In Time 1 hour COVID-19 Immunization Training is now available!

PLEASE NOTE! We understand there is a LOT of information contained in this news story, but all should prove beneficial in answering any questions surrounding the administration of the COVID-19 vaccine or the online CE software that ISDS utilizes to offer this course.

This course allows Illinois dentists to administer the COVID-19 vaccine at vaccination sites under the coordination and supervision of a medical facility or local health department. This has become a reality after extensive efforts by ISDS in petitioning the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation to issue a revised proclamation altering the training requirements.

The course is being provided to all dentists free of charge to help aid in vaccination efforts throughout the State of Illinois. To access the course for FREE, please enter the discount code "volunteer" at checkout.

The course is housed on https://isds.ce21.com/ This is the same site that ISDS utilizes to offer its sexual harassment and safe opioid prescribing courses. If you have taken either of those courses, then you already have an account with CE21.

Liability Consideration and Information

Protections through Illinois’ Good Samaritan Act are afforded to dentists administering the COVID-19 vaccine through a public health facility.

(745 ILCS 49/20) from the Good Samaritan Act:

(b) A dentist who administers vaccinations as provided in Section 54.3 of the Illinois Dental Practice Act at a public health clinic operated pursuant to the Public Health District Act, without charge to the patient or the receipt of a fee or compensation from that clinic or for that service in any way, shall not be liable for civil damages as a result of his or her acts or omissions in providing vaccinations, except for willful or wanton misconduct.

Professional Liability Policies

Dentists wondering if an existing professional liability insurance policy might include coverage when administering the COVID-19 vaccine, it is always best to verify this information with the professional liability carrier and the terms and conditions of your individual policy. Each carrier and policy could potentially differ from person to person. Professional Liability policies from The Dentists Insurance Company (TDIC), ISDS’ endorsed insurance provider, follow the scope of practice by a dentist under the Illinois Dental Practice Act.This now includes dentists administering the COVID-19 vaccination following the proclamation issued by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation. TDIC Professional Liability policyholders who perform COVID-19 vaccinations will be covered as long as the proclamation is in place and the policyholder has the training or certification required to administer the vaccine.
