Starting in 2020, all Illinois employers are required by law to train employees on sexual harassment prevention by December 31, 2020, and on an annual basis thereafter. This requirement applies to all employers with employees working in this State.
To simplify compliance with this requirement, the Illinois State Dental Society offers an “On Demand" Sexual Harassment Prevention Course that can be both provided to employees to meet the employer’s requirement and can also offer continuing education credit. Members may purchase the course at a reduced cost of $50 by clicking here. To comply with the State law, employers need to keep an internal record of training compliance, including the names of employees trained, the date of training, a sign-in worksheet, and a copy of the training materials. Included below is a template that can be utilized with the ISDS training course to be utilized as the internal record log, and the online ISDS continuing education software contains the training video and a timestamp of the date/time that the training was completed/viewed.
Separate, but related, from the employer’s responsibility is that one hour of sexual harassment CE credit is required every three-year license renewal period for dentists and hygienists. Each licensed professional would need to be able to produce his or her own continuing education certificate to meet this one hour requirement. As such, a member could purchase one ISDS course and use this to meet the annual requirement as an employer, but only one licensed professional (the one purchasing the course) would be able to use this certificate to meet the licensure requirements. Other licensed professional needing a CE certificate for sexual harassment training would need to separately purchase, view, and pass the on-demand course in order to receive his or her own certificate.
