Clarification on Final Emergency Proclamation by the Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) on Expanding the Ability of Dentists and Hygienists to Administer the COVID-19 Vaccine
From the beginning, ISDS advocated for both dentists and hygienists to be allowed to administer vaccinations using the “Just in Time” model that showed success when used during a mock drill at the DuPage Public Health Department in 2014.
The language was part of a House and Senate Resolution introduced during the lame duck session in early January. The House Resolution passed out of committee but did not pass the House as time ran out. A meeting with IDFPR’s secretary and director happened because of our efforts and the language presented was advocated by ISDS.
IDFPR’s decision not to include dental hygienists was theirs and theirs alone.
ISDS viewed this issue as a public health service and is disappointed hygienists were not included.
