Public Relations
To promote a positive image of dentistry and spread the message about good oral health care to the public,
the Illinois State Dental Society sponsors public relations programs throughout the year, targeted to different
age groups. On one end of the spectrum is National Children’s Dental Health Month—complete with a coloring
contest and activities for young children. On the other end is the oral cancer screening that ISDS offers at
a statewide Senior Celebration. What else is in store? The State Fair Smile Contest, school competitions and,
of course, Flossie the ISDS mascot—who’s always ready to celebrate with friends. Regardless of the age group,
ISDS communicates the importance of brushing, flossing, regular visits to the dentist, healthy eating habits,
and tobacco cessation for a lifetime.
