For New Dentists

The Illinois State Dental Society Committee on the New Dentist was formed to advise the Society on issues related to newly practicing dentists. The committee is composed of eight ISDS members out of dental school less than ten years and two dental students who meet twice a year to share ideas and activities of the new dentist.

Mission Statement:
The mission of the Illinois State Dental Society New Dentist Committee is to serve as a mentor and professional resource for new dentists who have been out of dental school for 10 years or less, primarily through networking, seminars, and special events, in order to help the transition into the dental profession and encourage involvement in organized dentistry

The following programs and activities are sponsored by the ISDS New Dentist Committee:

  • ADA Programs, including Conference on the New Dentist & Golden Apple Award
  • Contact Dentist Network
The goal of the component contact dentist program is to have one dentist in each component contact new dentists to familiarize them with the services and programs offered by the Illinois State Dental Society. Our hope is that the contact dentists would create a list of dentists who could be called upon to assist the new dentist by taking them to lunch, answer their questions and act as a type of mentor.
  • Board Survival Kits
At board exam time the graduating students from the state dental schools are presented with a board survival kit which provides them with a fun bag of snacks, juices, power bars, along with a note of encouragement from an ISDS New Dentist Committee member.
  • Eat n Learn Seminars
The Committee on the New Dentist sponsors lunch for students attending the ADA SUCCESS seminars held at the dental schools. In the spring, ISDS staff present the benefits of membership in organized dentistry to the practice management classes.
  • ISDS New Dentist Resource Guide
  • ISDS E-vent
