Scholarships
Each year, the ISDS Foundation awards $12,000 in scholarship monies to worthy dental students from both Southern Illinois University School of Dental Medicine and the University of Illinois College of Dentistry.
| The Paul W. Clopper Scholarship is a $3,000 financial grant awarded to two students in their junior year of dental school. It is based on academic and clinical excellence as well as financial need, student activities, and community involvement. Similarly, the David C. Shapiro Scholarship is a $3,000 financial grant that memorializes Dr. Shapiro’s civic leadership and dedication to the dental profession. It too is based on academic and clinical excellence as well as financial need, student activities, and community involvement. |

It is through generous donor support that the ISDS Foundation is able to continue to provide financial assistance for today’s dental students, many of whom will become tomorrow’s dental leaders.

White Coat Ceremony
Donor support also enables the ISDS Foundation to help sponsor White Coat Ceremonies at Illinois’ two dental schools. The ceremony, in which each new dental student is presented a white clinic coat, reinforces the level of standards for dental professionals and symbolizes a milestone in the students’ professional journey.
Field Trip to the Future
Through this Foundation-supported program, Dental students from both dental schools participate in the annual Field Trip to the Future. The field trip, which is sponsored in part by the ISDS Foundation, enables students to see organized dentistry in action. The students tour the American Dental Association Headquarters, participate in educational seminars, and network with practicing dentists and dental leaders.
