Continuing education courses are offered to the entire dental team member dentists, hygienists and lab technicians, and dental office staff. Topics are selected to enhance and update practicing dentists' formal education and to provide continual training for the dentist and dental auxiliary staff. Members receive a $25 continuing education voucher each year to use when registering for any ISDS sponsored course.
On-Line Continuing Education
For on-line multimedia CE classes presented by some of the finest dental educators in the world, ISDS endorses DenTrek. Choose from more than 50 hours of ADA CERP-accredited online classes.
ISDS component dental societies also offer their own continuing education programs.
Dental Assistant Courses
ISDS offers a certification course throughout the state to enable dental assistants to fulfill the educational requirements as stated in Illinois law for application of pit and fissure sealants and coronal polishing.
The Dental Education Committee is also working on adding additional training courses for the dental assistant in radiography, monitoring nitrous oxide, provisional restorations, dental materials, impressions and study models, stay tuned for further updates.
Local Anesthesia Courses
In 2001, legislation was passed in the State of Illinois to allow dental hygienists to administer local anesthesia if they met the proper requirements, including an approved course of 32 hours.
Currently Illinois dental and hygiene schools are offering courses to certify the dental hygienists with this new expanded function.
National CE Course Offerings
The American Dental Association and the Academy of General Dentistry offer national continuing education courses on a broad range of topics of interest to the dentist and the entire dental team.
