ISDS Coronal Polishing and Pit/Fissure Sealant Certification Courses
Successful completion of this 10-hour course will result in dental assistants fulfilling their educational
requirements under Illinois law for application of pit and fissure sealants and coronal polishing.
The requirements include didactic study in anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, and dental emergencies,
followed by passing a written exam. This course also includes two hours each of clinical experience
on applying pit and fissure sealants and coronal polishing. Students perform the clinical portion on
coronal polishing on human subjects.
ISDS Basic Intraoral and Panoramic Radiographic Techniques for
Allied Dental Personnel
This eight-hour course is designed for dental assistants who already possess fundamental skills in dental radiography.
The course will be structured such that the participant, upon completion, should reveal a refinement of existing
radiographic skills, as well as the ability to satisfactorily demonstrate newly acquired ones.
Nitrous Oxide Analgesia: Administering and Monitoring
for Dental Auxiliaries
This course for monitoring and administration of nitrous oxide by the allied
dental personnel is designed to meet the certification requirements of the state
of Illinois for expanded functions. This is a 6-hour course and will include
both didactic and clinical components in the monitoring and administration of
nitrous oxide. It will provide instruction in anatomy, physiology, pharmacology,
and dental emergencies, as they relate to the use of Nitrous Oxide in the dental
office. This course is open to all qualified dental assistants for monitoring
and dental hygienists for administering. After successful completion of
this course the dental assistant can return to the private office and provide
expanded function for the dental team and the monitoring of nitrous oxide, while
the dental hygienists will be able to start and stop the flow of gas.
Anesthesia/Sedation Monitoring Course
This course is offered as a continuing education experience for dental assistants and dental hygienists who work in dental or oral surgery offices in the State of Illinois where sedation or general anesthesia is administered. The 12- hour course is designed to meet the requirements of the Illinois Dental Practice Act and the Rules Administering the Dental Practice Act. This course includes both lecture and clinical exposure which is completed at one of the two dental schools in Illinois. The lecture portion of the course includes areas of anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, monitoring and emergency procedures with an emphasis on airway management. The dental assistant maintains Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers certification or its equivalent is required to take this course.

Class size is limited and registration will be taken on first-come, first served basis.
Cancellation/Refund Policy– If cancellation is received at least 15 days prior to the course, a full refund will be granted. After this period, only an 85% refund will be given. Cancellation must be made prior to the day of the course to receive the 85% refund. No refunds will be granted for no-shows. A course credit will be given due to illness and weather conditions.
